Octafest mobile app privacy notice

Octafest is a festival programme companion provided by MB "The Mykolas". Contact: hello@themykolas.com.

How to access or delete your data

Data stored on your device

No account is required. Your selected festival, settings, favorite films, marked screenings, reminder choices, purchase confirmations and cached programme are stored locally on your device. The app does not upload your lists of favorites or marked screenings, your reminder choices or your purchase confirmations to Octafest, the festival, or a social network. If you turn on anonymous usage sharing, individual actions such as liking a film or marking a screening are counted anonymously.

Network and technical information

The app requests public programme information and film images from festival APIs and image hosts. For requests served by Octafest, our servers and content-delivery providers receive network and technical information, including IP address, requested URL, user agent, request identifiers, response status and timings. Providers may infer approximate location, such as country, from the IP address. This information supports content delivery, operational monitoring, performance and protection against abuse.

Technical request records are retained beyond serving an individual request. Our Cloudflare CDN request analytics and security event datasets are available for up to 31 days. Contact us for information about other technical records or requests for deletion.

Optional anonymous usage sharing

Usage sharing is off by default. Supported Android versions of the app include a Settings switch to turn it on or off. The current iOS release does not send these app-action events.

When you turn it on, the app sends Octafest:

  • the action: opening a film, recommendation, section or genre; liking or unliking a film; marking or unmarking a screening; or opening a ticket link;
  • the public ID of the film, screening, recommendation, section or genre involved, and of the festival edition;
  • the app platform, such as Android.

Octafest checks each event against the published programme and forwards it to our own self-hosted Plausible Analytics installation, where actions are counted for the festival. No account, user or device identifier is sent. Your lists of favorites and marked screenings, your reminder settings and your purchase details stay on your device; usage events include no ticket number, purchase confirmation or payment information. Octafest does not forward your IP address or user agent to Plausible. Our servers still receive the network and technical information described above when the app sends events.

The counts are not stored against a user or account, and we do not use them to identify individual people. We generally cannot identify your contributions for deletion. Turning usage sharing off stops future events; counts already recorded remain part of the totals.

Permissions and reminders

The app includes no Octafest advertising or analytics SDKs, and does not request access to your location, contacts, camera, microphone or photo library. Optional usage sharing is part of the app itself and is sent only through Octafest.

Notifications are optional. Permission is requested only when you choose a screening reminder. Reminders are scheduled locally using the operating system. You can change reminders inside the app or disable notifications in device settings.

Optional trailers

Trailers are optional embedded videos from YouTube or Vimeo. The app loads a trailer only after you choose to open it. The video provider may receive network and device information, such as your IP address and which trailer you play, and may use cookies or browser storage in the embedded player. Embedded players may show advertisements and collect viewing information. The provider's own privacy practices apply. YouTube embeds use youtube-nocookie.com.

Provider policies: Google / YouTube and Vimeo.

Ticket providers

Ticket links open the ticket provider's external website or app. That provider receives information when you open its service or purchase a ticket, according to its own privacy practices. Octafest does not process ticket payments or receive your payment details. If you confirm a purchase when returning to Octafest, that confirmation and your selected film, screening and reminders stay on your device. With usage sharing turned on, opening a ticket link is counted anonymously with the public screening ID.

Access or delete your Octafest data

Octafest is provided by MB "The Mykolas". No app account is needed to make a request. Follow these steps for the data you want to remove:

  1. To remove local favorites or screening marks, toggle the heart or bookmark again. Change or remove screening reminders inside the app.
  2. To remove all local app data, delete the app or clear its storage in device settings. This removes the app's local festival selection, settings, favorites, screening marks, reminder choices, purchase confirmations and cached programme. Remove scheduled reminders inside the app before uninstalling. Android cloud backup is disabled. On iOS, device backups may include app data according to your Apple backup settings; manage those backups in your Apple settings.
  3. For privacy questions or requests to access or delete data held by Octafest, email hello@themykolas.com with the subject "Octafest privacy / deletion". Say which records your request concerns. For technical request records, relevant dates, URLs or request identifiers can help us identify them. We review requests and may need further details to locate the records. Requests can cover the server and CDN technical records described below; we assess whether they can be identified and deleted. Anonymous or aggregated records may not be identifiable as yours.

To stop anonymous usage sharing, turn it off in the app's Settings. Counts already recorded carry no per-person identifier, so we generally cannot identify an individual's contributions for deletion.

Server and CDN technical records may include IP addresses, requested URLs, user agents, request identifiers, response status, timings and inferred country. The Cloudflare CDN request analytics and security event datasets are available for up to 31 days. Contact us for information about other technical records. Some information may need to be retained for security, abuse prevention or legal obligations.

Video and ticket providers process information independently. Contact them under their own privacy policies to request access, deletion or retention information: Google / YouTube, Vimeo, or the ticket provider shown when you open a ticket link.
